Fraud Loss in Dollars by Type of Cyber Crime
According to data from the The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), the #1 type of fraud by total dollar loss was Confidence Fraud/Romance Fraud in 2018 for a total of nearly $204 million. Second on the list was BEC/EAC fraud (Business Email Compromise/Email Account Compromise) for nearly $193.5 million. BEC/EAC fraud involves wire fraud scams, a multi-billion dollar type of fraud on the rise. Investment fraud ranks third at $175 million in 2018.
