Cyber Crimes in the USA in 2018

Cyber CrimesCyber Crimes

Which states reported the most cyber crimes to the FBI in 2018? The map below shows the total number of cyber crimes reported for each state. If you hover over the map, you can see the total percentage that each state had across the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Naturally, the states with the highest populations generally had the most cyber crimes reported, but the total number of cyber crimes wasn’t completely proportional to the population. For example, California represents 12% of the population, but 15.3% of all the cyber crimes occurred in the state. Also note Virginia, which has 0.19% of the population in the US but had 4.63% of all the cyber crimes.

Cyber Crimes per Capita in the U.S.

When looking at the states with the highest number of reported cyber crimes per capita, we see that Alaska had the highest total, at 217.4 per 100,000 people. Washington D.C. was second at 194.2, followed by Virginia at 173.8.
